Help Us Achieve A Litter Free New Forest

About Us

New Forest District Council (NFDC) spends £1.5m each year on manual and mechanical
sweeping, litter picking, the provision and emptying of litter and dog waste bins, and the collection and removal of fly-tipped waste.

The challenge is not simply a financial one – littering poses a threat to wildlife, causes traffic
disruption, danger for cleaning operatives, and is the cause of dissatisfaction amongst many who live in or visit the area.

Look Out for Our Forest is a campaign to keep the New Forest clean & beautiful for everyone.
Litter threatens this incredible place. That’s why we’ve launched Look Out for Our Forest (LOFOF), a community to protect what we love. Together, we can make sure everyone protects what we love.

Roads Update

In the past two weeks, the StreetScene team completed major clean-ups across five dual carriageways in the New Forest, collecting 285 bags of litter and over 5 tonnes of dirt and debris. Crews carried out litter picking, sweeping, weed spraying and removed dead animals.
Some of this had to be done overnight with road closures in place (Rushington to Redbridge), meaning crews from Streetscene and Grounds Maintenance were unable to carry out daytime work as usual.
You can help by doing one simple thing: take your litter home or bin it properly.
It really does make a difference.

70 Bags - M27 Michigan Way

50 Bags - A326 Cocklydown

60 Bags - A35 Spicers Hill

50 Bags Rushington

55 Bags - A354 Martin

Total: 285 bags and over 5 tonnes of dirt and debris

What is Crabby?

The Coastal Crabby Project is a bold, behaviourally informed initiative within the Look Out for Our Forest campaign – bringing our successful anti‑littering approach to the coastline. Since launching in 2021, it’s placed free litter‑bag dispensers at busy beach sites like Barton‑on‑Sea, Milford‑on‑Sea, and Calshot, showing visitors how simple actions can make a big difference.
